About CFLS

Community Family Life Services is a multi-faceted human services organization for Washington D.C.'s most vulnerable residents.

When people living in poverty come to Community Family Life Services (CFLS) for help, they don't just have one need, they have many needs. CFLS provides basics of life services - food, clothing and shelter - along with a designed path to self-sufficiency through our youth and adult programs.

We believe that by offering the "let us help you and you learn to help you" approach to people who pass through our doors, along with basic life services, is a powerful combination. This approach has distinguished CFLS and is the model that produces our many success stories.

Our key programs include:

  • Affordable permanent and transitional housing for individuals and families who are homeless or who have physical and mental disabilities.
  • Emergency food and clothing to meet the most basic necessities of life for persons who are low income.
  • Case management for persons living with HIV or AIDS to insure they have access to and utilize necessary medical, mental health, and other supportive services.
  • Employability development and job placement to help individuals reach their career goals through assistance with job searches, resumes and cover letters.
  • Support services including life skill development, therapy, and substance abuse counseling.
  • Mentoring provided by trained and experienced volunteers for youth in foster care and families living in poverty to facilitate their linkage to positive social support systems.
  • After-school and summer camp programs for school age youth to support their academic and social successes.
  • Parent Center to identify family strengths and to facilitate family life development.
