We found that a number of the adults in our housing programs without GEDs or high school diplomas were simply ill-equipped to take and pass a GED exam.
That is why CFLS has expanded its service offerings to include those focused on building literacy and academic skills of the families, children and individuals we serve. Our primary program for adults is our A.W.A.K.E. program ( Achievement, Work, Awareness, Knowledge and Education). It provides pre-GED tutoring to help clients successfully complete the rigorous preparion needed to achieve their GED. Those whose academic background is insufficient to support their direct entry into a GED prep program receive one-on-one instruction designed to meet their specific literacy needs.
All A.W.A.K.E. participants are provided life skills and job readiness training when appropriate.
