Eligibility
For All Housing Programs
Applicants interested in applying for housing through CFLS' Housing Program should meet the following criteria:
- Be homeless at the time of referral (Must first register with the Virginia Williams Family Resource Center at 25 M Street, SW to be certified as homeless in Washington, DC)
- If in recovery, we have an expectation of at least 6 months of being clean and sober
- Be willing to live in a drug- and alcohol-free environment, sign a lease agreement, and accept program regulations and guidelines
- Agree to pay 30% of their monthly income for rent
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Pass a urine test
Additional Requirements:
SAFAH The family must currently be living in a CFLS housing facility and the head of household must have a job. We do accept referrals for our SAFAH program from other agencies.
Shelter Plus Care The head of household must have been doubly- or triply-diagnosed by a psychiatrist as having an Axis I Mental Health issue, history of substance abuse, and/or HIV/AIDS. Individuals are usually referred by the Community Partnership to Prevent Homelessness, and must have an interview with case managers, followed by a psychiatric evaluation.
Milestone Place Must be a single man or woman free from the physical care and/or responsibility of children.
For eligibility in our transitional housing programs, families must have at least one dependent child.
