Employment Counseling

No two individuals who come to CFLS are alike. they have different life experiences, different skills, different expectations. Some have been steadily employed over long periods of time, but thrown out of work. Others are working in jobs paying minimum wage. And some have never worked or worked only intermittently, making the job-hunt process a mystery.

Employment Counselors at CFLS work with each individual no matter where they are in life, and seek to establish a strong relationship giving the client enough attention and support to go out and find a job paying a livable wage.

When a client first meets with an Employment Counselor, the counselor determines what skills he or she has, or -- if the client is not employment-ready -- refers the client to a job training program. The client and the counselor outline achievable goals.

The counselor will then work with the client on a weekly basis to help him/her build up their resume, and to assist them in our Employment Resource Center. The counselors also pass on information about upcoming job fairs, both at CFLS and at other organizations, and any positions that are available throughout the city.

In addition, our employment counselors work actively with employers to set up job leads in order to directly place our clients in jobs.

Last year we placed 175 individuals in jobs last year.
