Empowering the Family
The FAMILIES (Families as Advocates, Movers, Innovators, Leaders and Implementers For Empowerment and Strength) helps families acquire the skills needed to adapt to (and ultimately improve) difficult and changing situations, all in a positive and safe setting. Adults and children get the help they need to access vital social services. They also learn the importance of cooperation, trust and mutual respect in order to maintain harmonious relationships among family members.
We teach parents effective parenting skills, discipline techniques, conflict resolution and crisis management. Couples also learn how to develop and sustain healthy marriages.
We help families learn coping and adapting skills, navigate the human services system to find needed resources, handle their personal finances, and most importantly, to advocate on behalf of their children in the public school system.
Adults in the family also gain access to other vital services offered by CFLS, including programs, like AWAKE, to help them overcome illiteracy.
