Health and Wellness Services

Designed to work in conjunction with the five other program areas, CFLS' Health and Wellness program focuses on the physical and mental well being of our clients.  From the outset, the program has provided support to those struggling to remain clean and sober, while also addressing the mental health of clients.

In many cases, we have found that individuals who are unemployed or homeless are hampered in their quest for stability by underlying mental health issues or a history of substance abuse.  In order to ensure that each individual who leaves our program will be able to support him/herself in the future, we must work with them to address these underlying issues.  Without addressing emotional, psychological, or physical health, it becomes very difficult for an individual to move to a more functionally and mentally indepedent life.

In response to this need, CFLS' Health and Wellness staff provides clients participating in any of our other five programs with valuable services as mental health and substance abuse counseling in both individuals and group settings.  The staff works to educate clients about healthy living--including information about everything from nutrition to HIV/AIDS prevention.  In addition, through a partnership with Temple Micah, our Health and Wellness team is providing recovery services to individuals living in Micah House, a group home in Northwest Washington, DC.

The Health and Wellness component of our programs is a vital part in the recovery of independence for our clients.  We empower them to change their circumstances with the use of therapeutic groups, individual therapy, and a partnership approach to becoming self-sufficient.
