Jim Hines
Organizational Affiliation: General Electric
Jim Hines came to Community Family Life Services (CFLS) because he wanted to explore the possibility of applying his skills toward the very important community effort of ending homelessness.
Jim has lived in the Washington area since 1967 upon his honorable discharge from the United States Army. He immediately began work at the Goddard Space Flight Center, followed by positions of increasing responsibility in the telecommunications area of General Electric (GE) and Data Transmission, Inc. He obtained a BS Degree in Political Science and History from Howard University in 1975. Jim is the father of three children and a long time member of Rock Creek Baptist Church in Washington DC, working on several civic and community projects. He enjoys traveling, jazz, movies, sports, reading, and current politics as a way of spending leisure time.
Over the years Jim has participated in many community organizations and Boards. During my tenure at GE, he was a member of the African American Forum. This Forum, a self-help advisory and global networking group, was initiated to enhance African American career development with GE's support. Jim worked both at the local and national planning levels. In addition, for the past 8 years he has served as a Big Brother and Sister mentor, working with an individual youth. Jim currently serves as GE representative for "Dare to Achieve," a joint Educational and Business board in Chester, Pa. Dare to Achieve's charter is to determine what business contributions can be made toward improving the education experience for urban children and parents in Chester County, Pa. Most recently, Jim became a member of Black Voices for Peace (BVP), an activist group in the Washington area. This group strives to development an African American voice in local and international affairs.
Jim joined the CFLS, Board of Directors in April of 2003, and currently serves as board President.
