SAFAH
Supplemental Assistance for Families in Assisted Housing
During the last six months of a family's stay in our two-year transitional housing program, families in which the head of household holds a full time job may participate in our SAFAH (Supplemental Assistance for Families in Assisted Housing) program to help ensure a smooth transition into independent living. To help them with a successful transition, a case manager works with the family to locate affordable housing, and provides more in-depth financial management and life skills counseling to prepare the family for independent living. Families receive financial assistance in paying the first month's rent and security deposit, moving expenses, and furniture costs. SAFAH also provides families with counseling through the first six months in permanent housing.
The SAFAH program is available for any client leaving CFLS housing who is currently employed. In addition, we accept referrals from other agencies on occasion. On average, 85% of CFLS clients remain housed throughout the six-month follow-up period and for at least another six months after that.
