Job Training Programs
Not everyone who enters our doors has the training and skills necessary to obtain a living-wage job. For those individuals who come to us looking to gain skills and experience, CFLS has developed a variety of Job Training Programs aimed at helping them gain the skills they need to find a job that pays well enough for them to support themselves. In addition, as trainees in our not-for-profit business ventures (3rd & Eats Restaurantand New Course Catering), trainees take an active role in supporting our ventures that help them gain experience and autonomy in the workplace.
Job preparation and training workshops provide 18 weeks of classroom training, covering a mix of life skills and job skills development. The life skills training addresses issues of critical concern that employers have told us are often missing in their new hirees. CFLS' job training programs in the culinary arts has enjoyed a long history of providing valuable on-the-job training for low-income, unemployed and underemployed individuals. Our data shows that graduates typically find jobs paying from $7.50 to $15.00 per hour, exceeding the minimum wage and thereby placing self-sufficiency within reach.
