Mentoring

Program

The Community Family Life Services, (CFLS) provides a much needed social services program called, “Mentoring Program.”  This engaging and family mentoring program is designed to help fulfill the gaps for positive role models in the lives of people who need it most.

Our Mentoring Program serves not only low income families, but also provides mentorship to families of women returning home from a period of incarceration. In 2016, we continually served 57 mentees and 30 mentors ongoing throughout the year!

Women returning home from prison presents their own set of challenges. Through our program, we provide constant positive support to help families and individuals navigate through pitfalls that can derail their lives. We strive to help improve lives and empower our women to achieve and make positive, long-term changes in their lives for their family.

In our program, the head of a household is connected with an active member of the community.  With the involvement of CFLS, our community partner engages in mentoring the family through a set of goals that have been established by the mentee for a period lasting up to twelve months. During that time, they will participate in planned and personal activities to strengthen their bond, relationship and improve the mentee’s confidence leading to successes.  Mentees and mentors complete a partner assessment and application regarding their living environment, career, work and education status, personal interests and other unique questions which helps us ensure that the matches are as compatible as possible.
